Peach Jam

If there is one thing that I will not complain about my stay in SA, that would be the quality and variety of fruits available here. They are not only fresh but also reasonably priced as compared to Singapore. As mentioned before, my favourite fruit at the moment is peach, which I've been using for baking a couple of times. And a few days ago, I used some very sweet peaches to make jam.

The recipe of the jam is taken from here. I made half a batch, reduced the sugar slightly but the jam is still a tad sweet for my liking. But with previous jam-making attempts ended up in the trash because they were all burnt, I'm happy enough with the result.

The next day, I had some freshly baked linzer cookies sandwiched with my peach jam. Yum!

Peach Jam Recipe

Ingredients:
6 peaches,peeled, pitted and chopped
2 oranges
2.5 cups white sugar

Method:
1) Scrub the oranges with a vegetable brush, then chop into small pieces, including the peels. Place the chopped peaches and oranges in a pot, stir in sugar, cover and refrigerate overnight.
2) The next day, simmer the mixture over low heat and then cook for 2-3 hours, stir occassionally.
3) When the jam has thickened, remove from heat. Let it cool to room temperature, and then ladle into jars.

This looks so good, and I bet it was great with the cookies. I really want to try making my own jam- peach is one of my favorites!

It's nice to have homemade jam. Make use of you stay there with all the fruits you can get! They are so expensive here in SG.

That's a fresh change from normal jam cookies I tasted. When I'm back home during CNY I always had the usual pineapple jam tarts. Peach jam is a welcome change :-) I hope to go to Dubai & SA visiting my classmates.

What a beautiful coloured jam! Pity it's too sweet - it looks so luxurious and perfect in those linzer cookies.

I had to try this, I live in Florida, and the navel oranges are everywhere. I have never made any kind of jam or jelly, so it was an experiment. I have to say it turned out fantastic!!! a little thick, but that is because I didnt remove it from the stove while I was checking to see if it was thick enough. Thanks again for recipe, it is delicious!! Def making again..

Do you know if this can be done in the crockpot rather than on the stove for three hours? I'm cooking it now but if it comes out as great as everyone says I would like to make more, I just don't want to leave the stove on for that long, especially with two little kids in the home. Thanks!

Anonymous @ 8/24/2012 - Sorry, I've never made jam with a crockpot before so I won't be able to tell you if it's ok to do so.
