Braised Pork Belly with Beer Recipe
Ingredients:
500g pork belly (with skin removed), rinse and cut into cubes
2 stalks spring onions, cut into long strips
5 slices ginger
3 garlic cloves, smashed
1 pc cinnamon stick
2 pcs tangerine peels
5 pcs bay leaves
200ml beer
1000ml water
Seasoning:
180ml light soy sauce
1 tablespoon rock sugar
Pepper, to taste
3 tablespoons rice wine
Method:
1) Heat up 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok. Saute ginger, garlic and spring onions until fragrant.
2) Add in pork, saute until there is a change in colour. Add beer, cover and cook until the beer reduce to half of the original amount.
3) Add seasoning, saute for a while and then transfer the pork mixture to a clay pot.
4) Add bay leaves, cinnamon stick, tangerine peels and water into the clay pot. Make sure that the water is enough to cover the pork, add more if necessary. Turn on high heat, and when the gravy starts to boil, cover the pot and turn the heat to low. Continue to cook for about 50 minutes.
5) Turn off heat, leave the cover on for another 10 minutes. Dish out and serve.

Donna
A wonderful blend of flavors! That dish looks so good!
Cheers,
Rosa
I have to try this with beer! wonder if it will work with stout. What is the flavour difference with beer?
Beer? Woah, hubby will love this. Does it give it a slight bitter after-tone?
Never tried with beer. Definitely looks yummy!! :)
Definitely going to try this. Looks so shiok.
Donna - The pork belly tastes great indeed. Thanks for your support!
Rosa - Thanks! :-)
Penny - There is a bitter aftertaste (from the beer) in this dish. Now you give me a new idea, I think it will work with stout, I'm going to give it a try soon. :-)
Daphne - So you hubby is also a beer drinker like mine! My hubby loves this dish and he said that I should've cooked more for him. ;-) Yes, the gravy is slightly bitter from the beer.
Leemei - Give the dish a try, it is really yummy!
Edith - yes, very shiok, I will cook this again soon!
looks delicious!!
Lovely recipe! I think I have to try it out with several types of beer available locally in Belgium. So far I only used beer in crepes, savoury dishes but haven't try it out on our Southeast Asian's Tau Eu Bak version.
This is such a lovely dish. I don't take pork, but I think I can use similar concept to other dishes somewhat :)
This looks great! hmmm... I want to have this with white rice.
